My Experience at the POC In Architecture x Foster+Partners Model Making Workshop

At the recently concluded two-week Model Making Workshop organised by POC In Architecture in collaboration with Foster + Partners, I had the privilege of taking part in an enriching model-making workshop that has left me inspired and equipped with valuable skills.

The workshop saw us work in a group of 5 and we were guided by the expertise of Architectural Technician Yasin Ali, I, along with an exceptional group of individuals, embarked on an intensive journey. We tackled a challenging brief, responding with creativity and innovation to reimagine the Waterloo roundabout, a significant urban space surrounding the BFI IMAX, this made us delve into a world of diverse model making techniques and materials.

Collaboration was at the heart of this workshop. Working harmoniously with a dynamic team of talented individuals – Candis Boateng, Ava Tizard, Anthony Amune, and Funmi Sowole we designed an external, self-supporting structure that elegantly envelops the existing building.

The structure, characterized by interconnected rings, serves as both a viewing platform and a circulation hub. The inclusion of innovative walkway ramps replacing conventional pavements ingeniously reimagined the pedestrian experience, transforming the roundabout into a dynamic, pedestrian-friendly zone.

My sincere gratitude extends to Savannah Williams for organising this invaluable workshop. This workshop has not only expanded my skill set but also offered a platform to collaborate with inspiring architects and model makers at Foster + Partners such as Asher Bourne, Francesca Carino, Edwin TOLEDO Danyal Hayat, and Ateeq Hayat. Your guidance and insights have been truly enlightening.

As I reflect on these two weeks of intense creativity, learning, and growth, I am brimming with excitement about applying my new found knowledge and skills in my new role as a Part II Architectural Assistant. The possibilities are endless, and I am ready to embrace them.

Here’s to the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and a promising future.
